Since I came across Byron Katie, I have only focused on that work. For about 6 months now (that’s why I have my “weblog”, kinda fun to keep truck of things like that). Personally for me, this is the best way I have found so far to work with ego, believes and thoughts.
I find it to be not easy, as in my experience it requires time to actually sit, write and do. And it definitely works. I may not actually do The Work every day, but I do listen to her CD’s daily.
I like the moment about next child who comes into the world.
“When I do the Work of Byron Katie”
What is that? I found the site, “The Work“. Are you doing that AND working with James? How much do you have to pay for the Byron Katie Work?
~Elena, thank you for sharing your experience. I’m currently listening to A Thousand Names for Joy in my car as I go around town. It is such an amazing book.
~Krzysztof, yes, I like that part of the video too :)
~Sabio, yes, I do The Work of Byron Katie in addition to working with James Wood. James is my primary teacher, because I have direct contact with him and receive personal instruction from him. James introduced me to The Work of Byron Katie, and the other teachers of spiritual awakening that I have listed on my blog. I consider Byron Katie and the other teachers (Adi Da, Richard Moss, Eckhart Tolle, Vernon Howard, etc.) as my secondary teachers. Each of their expressions of the Teaching is unique, but the message is fundamentally the same. James suggests working with one main teacher, while being in contact with other True Teachers through their texts, talks and videos, where available.
I went to see Byron Katie once, in Phoenix, and I paid for that event, there were lots of other people there too, and she led volunteers through The Work. As a regular practice, I use the ‘judge your neighbor worksheet’ or the ‘one-belief-at-a-time’ worksheet. Those materials are on her website and can be downloaded for free. I also find it useful to watch the videos of Katie guiding people though the ‘four questions and turn-around’. It is a profound method of inquiry that cuts through mental noise and confusion.
Byron Katie’s husband is Stephen Mitchell, who is an author and has translated some Buddhist texts like the Tao Te Ting. The book A Thousand Names for Joy is a collaboration between Katie and Stephen. In the audio version, he reads a verse from the Tao Te Ting and Katie riffs on it, giving her perspective and examples from her life to illustrate the verse.
Thanks alywaibel, that helped. You were most kind. I was impressed by an earlier video of hers I watched.
