“One thing is for sure – and everyone knows this one thing for sure. Everyone knows that something is happening to them socially, physically, mingling with other people, there are endless contacts, experiences, emotional and mental reactions. There are things that you have to do; some things that you can avoid, and inwardly the same. Something is always going on. Now that’s where the knowledge ends.
People are aware that there are happenings and events and resulting reactions and feelings. However, the cause and cure for these minute-by-minute experiences, the cause and the cure is unknown. However, there is another knowledge besides the cause and cure which they don’t know, which is that these experiences are mystifying, they are painful. There is something happening all the time and the individual feels helpless in the face of the inflowing floods of experiences, of thoughts, of moods. The individual, therefore, sees himself as a dodger.”
– Vernon Howard’s Higher World, from a talk given 11/19/1988
